The Pierre Auger Observatory

The aim of the Pierre Auger project is to study the highest energy cosmic rays. Experimental observations of cosmic particles with energies of more than 1020 eV represent a fundamental mystery of modern physics. More than 250 scientists of the Pierre Auger collaboration from 16 countries hope to solve this mystery with two very large detector systems.

Spokesperson of the Observatory is Prof. Ralph Engel (KIT), Head of IKP.
